Bed and Breakfast only exists in Veneto since December 1999, when the regional government allowed private homes to rent out rooms to tourists, as an alternative to the more expensive hotels.

The rooms can be limited to a single one in the landlord's flat to a few in a more luxurious setting. Breakfast is limited by law to packed items, as b&bs don't have the same licence hotels do.
